We’re the Gardner Family
We didn’t come from land or money, and we didn’t grow up with cattle in the backyard, but we had a dream.
On New Years Day, 2015, we packed up life as we new it, and moved 200 miles away from all our family and friends onto a deserted dirt road to live out our dream of raising cattle. Our house was an old stone granary built in the 1800s on a Pony Express stop. Our oldest was 3 months old, and our closest neighbor was 20 miles of dirt road away. We had an old pickup truck, used tools, and a list of goals that felt way too big, but we were all in.
We learned ranching the hard way, by doing. Fixing broken things, helping neighbors, asking a lot of questions, researching, messing up, and starting over.
For years we worked the family ranch. It wasn’t ours, but we treated it like it was. We poured everything we had into it. There was always something to do: move cows, fix fence, help a neighbor brand. The work never stopped, and neither did we. We gave up a lot: time with friends, holidays, sleep, even birthdays and special occasions. We said yes to the grind so we could say yes to the dream.
Our kids have never known anything different. They’ve grown up riding in the feed truck and playing in the corrals. Their first moments on a horse happened before they could crawl and their best nap times happened in the tractor helping mom and dad farm. They’ve learned to ride, rope, and show up. Even when it’s cold, and even when they’re tired.
Some of our best moments have happened before sunrise, and some of our hardest ones, long after dark. It doesn’t matter if it’s 100 degrees and sunny, or -15, dark, snowing, and windy. The work needs done, and animals need taken care of. There were seasons we didn’t know if our dream of having our own place would ever become reality, but we kept moving forward. We leaned on family, we leaned on community, and most of all, we leaned on each other.
After a decade of hustle, we did it. We bought our own place, our own herd, and our own name. We built our brand on honesty, hard work, and a love for ranch life. Looking back, it’s hard to believe how far we’ve come, but we wouldn’t change a thing. We’re so thankful for this life and the people who’ve supported us along the way. What started as a dream has become the rhythm of our days and the work that shapes our family.
Now our kids are getting older, they’re waking up in the middle of the night to help check heifers as they calve and to help bale hay. They wake up with the sun and are feeding animals before themselves. They gather and move cows on their own, and are right in the middle of everything that needs done to keep our dream going and growing.
This is only a snapshot into our life, but we’d love to show you more! Trust us to feed your family. We’d be honored to be your ranchers.
